So Andy over at Unit Interactive has posted on an awesome article titled We Refuse in which he shares how Unit Interactive is refusing to participate in the current world recession.

I actually found the article to be very inspiring and the overall attitude of Andy really made me think about some things that I need to be refusing.

The ideas that come to mind are how maybe it is about time for me to make some changes and just absolutely refuse to participate in anything professionally that isn’t helping to advance my career.

This is something that I am calling “I REFUSE”! While that is a bit different from declaring my non-participation in a global recession, I feel the same mind-frame could be just as useful on a smaller scale or even when significant changes need to be made.

As web workers how many of our own small problems and recessions are self-inflicted or how many times do we agree to participate with clients/companies because we need the money? How many times do these situations become headaches or not worth the hassle of dealing with? Sometimes this can be caused by unforeseen circumstances that couldn’t have been predicted, but a whole lot of headaches could be avoided just by refusing to participate in the first place, right? I really do think so!

I have been working on the web full time now for quite a while and have definitely had my ups and downs (AND SOME WAY DOWNS TOO). For the most part, a lot of the downs could have been avoided by refusing to participate in the first place.

So with that said, I am going to be making a few changes in 2009 by just ABSOLUTELY refusing to participate in anything that isn’t going to help me in any way, shape, or form (such as the recession in Andy’s case). Now don’t get me wrong because I know I am making it sound like working on the web is hell and that is not my intention at all. I actually love working on the web but from today on I think it’s time that I start refusing to participate in anything that isn’t positive for me personally, my family, or my overall career. I tend to give people the benefit of the doubt and in some cases, this has come back to bite me in the face, so from now on I REFUSE!

So along with my new site design is coming to a whole new attitude, outlook, and reconstruction of the way I do certain things… so look out because I am refusing any more negativity and/or any more BS from here on out.
